Steps to Buying a Domain Name

Let's assume you have a list of catchy, memorable, branded, and short domain names, and you're ready to buy. Here are the steps for buying and registering your domain name.

1. Choose a Reliable Domain Registrar To get a domain name, you should first find a registrar that is accredited with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), which is the nonprofit organization responsible for coordinating all of the numerical spaces on the internet. hostingspro.com offers domains governed by ICANN.

2. Find a Domain Availability Checker Tool The next step in your journey is a domain name search and should involve a domain availability checking tool. This will tell you if the domain you want, such as tinysgarage.com, is available or not.

hostingspro.com's domain availability checker tool can be found on the domains page.

3. Choose the Best Domain Name Option When you're checking for available domain names, you'll often find that your first, second, and tenth choices are already taken. Some of the different approaches you can take when this happens are:

Keep searching. Let your creative juices flow, and continue to search until you find something you love or at least like. Choose another extension. If the .com isn't available and you're set on a certain name, consider the .net or .org if you think it will work. Reach out to the owner. Maybe the domain is already owned, but it's not being put to much use. You could reach out to the owner with an offer.

4. Purchase Your Domain Name and Complete Its Registration Once you settle on a domain name, it's time to purchase it. When you buy through hostingspro.com, we'll let you know the annual cost of the domain name as well as any available discounts.

During the checkout process, you'll be required to enter your contact information, including an email address, to register the domain.

5. Verify Ownership of Your New Domain Paying for your domain might seem like the last step in the process, but you also need to verify your ownership. This step lets you send email using the domain ([email protected], for instance) and keeps other people from using it without your permission.

If you purchase your domain through hostingspro.com, this process is simple. You'll receive a verification email after you complete your purchase. Simply click on the Verify Domain button in the email and follow the instructions on the next page, and you can start using your domain to build your brand. You'll only ever have to complete this step once.

Buying a Domain from Another Person If the domain name you want is already owned, it might still be available. Assuming you find a name that you simply must have, here are the steps to complete a purchase:

1. Find the Owner's Contact Information Locate the owner of the domain by looking up their contact information through the WHOIS directory. If it isn't listed, you may be able to contact them from information you find on the domain's website.

2. Negotiate a Fair Price Once you make contact, offer a fair price for the domain. If you aren't sure about a price, do some research. You can even hire a broker to facilitate the deal on your behalf if you want the domain badly enough.

3. Complete the Sale Using Escrow Avoid wiring money to a stranger on the internet. It's just a bad idea. Instead, use an escrow service to ensure that both parties are satisfied and your sale is as low risk as possible.

Redirecting a new domain or subdomain (legacy)

step1: Navigate to the Manage Domains page. The Manage Domains page opens.

step2: Click the Add Hosting to a Domain / Sub-Domain button.

step3: Scroll down to the Redirect section.

step4: Enter the information in the following fields: ...

step5: Click the Redirect this domain button to complete the set up.

How to Change DNS For a Domain

To change the nameservers for your domain, you will need to do the following:

1. Sign in to your account.

2. Select Domain List from the left sidebar and click the Manage button next to your domain:

3. Find the Nameservers section and select your preferred option from the drop-down menu. Click on the green checkmark to save the changes:

NOTE: Nameservers are part of an extensive database called the Domain Name System (DNS), which acts as a directory for devices and the IP addresses attached to them. During the nameservers registration, the IP address is assigned to the nameservers. The unregistered nameservers do not have associated IP address and cannot work properly with some domains. For example, the Registry of .net domains checks whether the nameservers are registered and do not allow using unregistered nameservers.

You can choose from four possible options:

hostingspro.com BasicDNS if you wish to point your domain to our default nameservers:

dns1.registrar-servers.com

dns2.registrar-servers.com

hostingspro.com Web Hosting DNS if you have a shared hosting plan with us and wish to point your domain to our hosting nameservers:

dns1.hostingspro.com

dns2.hostingspro.com

NOTE: 1. Once the hostingspro.com are changed, all the custom DNS records for your domain name will be overwritten to our hosting ones. You will be able to re-create them in your cPanel Zone Editor and Email Routing menu where you can manage domain's email settings.

2. Do *not* select Namecheap Web Hosting DNS or input dns1.namecheaphosting.com/dns2.namecheaphosting.com nameservers unless you have a Shared Hosting plan with us.

CustomDNS if you wish to point your domain to custom nameservers (for example, your Personal DNS servers or third-party hosting nameservers if your domain is hosted with another DNS provider). You will need to fill in your hosting nameservers to the empty lines and click on the green checkmark to save the changes:

*ns1-2.nameserver.com are used as an example. Please use the nameservers provided by your hosting/DNS provider.

NOTE: It's required to enter the nameservers in the ns1.example.tld format, if you enter the IP addresses instead, the system will not accept this. Thus, if you were provided with both the nameservers and IP address(es), only the nameservers should be inserted as custom nameservers.

Namecheap PremiumDNS is a paid DNS service that can be used with any domain registered at any registrar. This option will be available for the domains that have a PremiumDNS subscription attached.

NOTE: If you change nameservers from Custom nameservers to our default ones or vice versa, the host records will not be added to the new nameservers automatically. Please make sure to save all the needed settings and set them up manually after the nameservers switch.

Nameservers changes do not propagate instantly. Once your nameservers are changed, it may take up to 24 hours (more, in rare cases) for local ISPs to update their DNS caches so that everyone can see your website.

You can always check your domain name using any Proxy server as Proxy servers do not store cache, thus you can see the non-cached information.

NOTE: Delivery of test emails sent from the same email address that is set as Forwarded to will most likely fail. Thus, please use another email address when testing the email forwarding service

1. Verify that your domain is eligible for transfer

Before initiating the transfer, make sure your domain qualifies for it. Here are the standard requirements for most domains, including all gTLDs (e.g., .COM / .NET / .ORG etc.), new gTLDs (e.g., .BID / .CLUB / .TRADE / .TECH etc.) and some ccTLDs (.TV / .ME / .CO etc.):

The domain must have been registered or transferred at least 60 days ago; The domain must be unlocked at the current registrar (its Whois status should read OK or Active); Some ccTLDs (.ES / .UK / .IO TLD, etc.) have additional transfer requirements and/or exclude some points from the list above. Please check the specific transfer requirements for your TLD here.

2. Order the transfer

After verifying that your domain name meets all transfer requirements, feel free to purchase the transfer at hostingspro.com.

To start, make sure you have logged in to your account, and then click the banner below.

Next, follow these steps:

Sign into your hostingspro.com account and go to the Transfer page (Domains drop-down menu). Enter your domain into the search bar, click Transfer. Verify that your domain is prepared for the transfer and checkboxes next to the corresponding fields. Provide the Auth/EPP code.

Add the transfer to the cart and check out using your preferred payment method.

Shortly afterwards, the transfer will be initiated at the Registry level and the domain will acquire "pendingTransfer" status. Your previous registrar should release the domain within up to 5-7 calendar days. If they do not take any actions within this period, the transfer will be approved automatically. You may also check with them if it is possible to speed up outgoing transfers with them.

When the transfer is over, you will receive a corresponding notification to the email address associated with your hostingspro.com account. Depending on a TLD, the domain will be renewed for one year and its status will automatically be set to 'clientTransferProhibited' (that is, the transfer Lock will be enabled).

Note 1: Please remember that a domain transfer does not imply automatic DNS change. The nameservers for your domain will remain the same after the transfer and are not automatically changed to hostingspro.com DNS. If your domain is using the default DNS of your previous registrar, they will delete the domain from their DNS zone shortly after the transfer completion which will result in downtime of your website and/or email. To learn how to minimize the downtime, review the information in this article. If instead you are using third-party nameservers, i.e. the ones provided by your host, there should be no interruption to your services. Additionally, be aware that once a domain transfer is initiated, it won't be possible to update the domain's nameservers. If you need to perform any urgent DNS changes, make sure to do it before the transfer starts. Otherwise, you will be able to do it only upon the transfer completion.

Note 2: If your domain expired with your previous registrar, and you've reactivated it (renewed after expiration) with them, please do not transfer it within 45 days of the previous expiration date. According to ICANN, the domain will be renewed for 1 year by the new registrar, but the reactivation year added to your domain by the previous registrar will be revoked. You may also lose renewal fees paid to the previous registrar. Check more information here.

2) If your domain has already expired, and you would like to reactivate it, please refer to this article for more details.

3) If you want to renew the SSL certificate along with the domain, you can do that in one order despite the fact that the expiration date may not coincide.

4) If you do not wish to renew your domain any longer, however, want your contact information to be hidden after the domain expiration, you can renew only the free domain privacy subscription following the "How do I renew domain privacy subscription?" guide.

5) The registration term cannot exceed full 10 years. Thus, if you have registered a domain for 1 year, you can renew your domain for 9 additional years maximum.

You'd be thinking how WhoisGuard manages to hide your personal information from WHOIS lookup and keep your domain running at the same time, right? The process is quite clear and straightforward like any other domain privacy protection service. They will simply put their own contact details on your domain's WHOIS lookup results, hiding all traces of your private data. That way WhoisGuard ensures your domain stays compliant with ICANN accreditation norms, while also safeguarding your data from spamming.

whoisguard protected

WhoisGuard displays the person's data on the public WHOIS directory along with their contact information and email. However, when someone contacts you through their email, they will forward it to your registered email address after checking for possible cyber threats or spam. This is also known as 'masking' your private information from being accessed publicly.
